Out of Space - Apple Battery Info. Searching the internet…found this as well: I did just now find this page from Apple Support One question though, the spec for the ATI radeon says max resolution is x Is that the total resolution of all three displays combined, or would I theoretically be able to run 3 display, each one up to x, at 60hz, full operation on all three displays?
I am guessing yes, but just want to verify.

The cost of those is probably about as much more as the cost of the converter, so its kind of a wash, but at least they would be more up to date monitors, possibly new instead of used. They would not exactly match the center display shrug.

But this is getting costly enough that I might rather consider upgrading all the way to 4k with a new video card s But i think that would probably start to be quite a bit more expensive then I can justify right now also Maybe its time to take the plunge What are some more modern video cards that work on the 5.

I'm not using any apple monitors. It only applies if you had an Apple 30" Cinema Display. Is the problem requiring the more expensive apple adapter related to the resolution being large or something specific in the Apple hardware requiring the active adapter? Or I am also now asking myself if I should just run a single Cinema Display at x and be done with it that way…. I think I am understanding that the expensive adapter is only needed if I plan to use a DVI monitor that is larger then x, regardless of whether its apple or not. Can you reference to some documentation somewhere which indicates that to be the case?
You do sound like you know what you're talking about, but before I pull the trigger on buying a pair of used Dell 's, I'd like to know for sure. That is most definitely the cheapest step up to 3 monitor solution for me if its true. I want matte finish displays I can't stand Apple's glossy displays Here's an Apple document that should explain this better: Radeon HD or to upgrade Mac Pro 1,1 2. By synergy67 in forum Other Hardware and Peripherals. Radeon unusually slow, no GL 3. Start a Discussion. All times are GMT Supported display configurations. What it will boil down to is that 3 monitors can be connected but two require active adapters.
VGA adapters are considered active. Other kinds need to be found. That leave the second mini displayport. You need an active mini displayport to DVI.
Logic Pro Help
But I cannot suggest one of these until you say what resolution you need on that DVI connection. If the resolution is greater than x you will need a dual link active adapter. Otherwise a single link activ adapter will work see the Eyefinity chart. Google " mini displayport to single link active adapter " to find it and alternatives. Google " mini displayport to dual link active adapter " to find it and alternatives. Mar 28, 2: So I'm in the same boat. Mac Pro with with two monitors, looking to upgrade to three. What does it mean for an adaper to be passive or active?
Plus the dual-link "active" adapters also use USB ports, and they take up so much space. So does anyone know exactly what the different is between passive and active adapters?
Apple ATI Radeon HD 5770 and 3 monitors
And why does the need active adapters if you're using three displays, but passive is fine if you are using just two? Active vs. Note, you only need dual link dvi if the monitor resolution is greater than x FWIW, monoprice.
Ok that doesn't make sense to me. How much power is required to send the digital signal out over a wire? The card gets power from a PCI slot, plus a second power connector to draw power directly from the logic board. And with all that power available, the tiny amount of power sent over two USB ports is enough to make the difference? This makes no sense to me. Why not put a second power plug on the video card, so you could use the second video card power port on the logic board. Then the card could suck all the power it needs, and you could use simple and cheap passive adapters to power three p monitors.
However apple's tech article states that you need two active adapters to get three displays technically the article says you need two dual-link adapters, but I think that's just because their dual-link adapter is active and their single-link is passive. I said earlier you only need dual link adapters for resolutions greater than x For example, the Accell BBB is a popular choice of a single link active adapter. Right, but that wasn't what I was commenting on.
My point was, can I get three monitors with one direct dvi, one passive adapter and one active adapter? Mar 28, 3: I do not agrree. But the "fun" here is playing with different combinations of adapters and connections to see what you can get away with. In my case I wanted to connect my old 17" vga, my 27" mini-displayport, and my TV to my My 27" mini-displayport monitor plugged into my That does not count as an active adapter so I needed to come up with two active adapters. The mini displayport to vga counts as one.
That leaves the dvi for the tv and I needed to come up with a active adapter. I found the following:. And the card was "happy" with that. It allowed me to pass the optical audio and the video to this box and convert to hdmi to the tv.
