I am an Apple Certified Technician. The design of their cooling is supposed to be state of the art but how can I see a better way than that? All i have against Apple in that engineering is a some at home overclocking to my PC's. Anyway, Apple applies more than triple the amount of paste, its embarrassing. I couldn't process my own warrantee and my fellow mate did so, he grabbed me and said, "Well theres yer problem" and we just starred at the gobs of thermo compound.
Between this thread and myself, I left Apple out on what I chose to put between my heat sink and fan Arctic Silver Thermo Compound - for bad ass over clocking. Wow, now that make a difference.

Anyway, my machine still gets hot due poor design to the cooling. So why don't I stop using demanding software?????????? That doesn't sound right. What sounds right is to keep my warrantee updated for more years to come, and see how many logic boards I can fry up for Apple. That is truely what everybody should be doing.
I'd love to swap about logic boards all day long if that was the case. Need help? Email me at this Apple Service Center: Thanks for helping us, the endusers. That same problem would explain why it's taking so long to install the operating system.
I don't know how you have set up the MBP to function with the lid closed, but obviously it's busy doing something with the drive and if the drive is failing, that will generate the heat. SMART doesn't catch everything. I'd suggest taking it to the Apple Genius Bar and having them run their more extensive tests on the system to see if they can detect more than you can with the tools you have available. As far as I know all setting are on default, how can I check the closed lid settings? Also want to note that the heat while closed is in the left top corner where the power adapter plugs in, heat with and whiteout it on charge.
Solutions:
Not surprising that corner is hot, that's where the power supply is and that's one of the major heat generators. How hot is "hot? On my MBP that corner is warmer to the touch than any other corner, but not too hot to touch. Clean installed in 20min, no problem, immigrated my user in about an hour, still no problems. Booted externally and everything seemed okay, nice and quick, no spinning wheels. Popped to back of the macbook open, after having to go and buy a new ph because one screw wouldn't budge, installed the SSHD and then booted. Nothing, then came the question marked folder.
1. Shut down your Mac
Checked the connections all was fine. Still couldn't detect the SSD. Read online the sometimes externally formatted drives can't be read, so wiped the drive, but still noting. Opened disk utilities and the drive was lasted but with out any volumes. Did some more research and it looks like the cable connecting the SSD in the board is not powerful enough.
Went to a mac service center just now they said I might be right and they have to order the part from Apple and install coming to around CHF, takes about 2 days. Would like to know if this is the cause before I waste even more time and money on the machine?

Mac Running Slow? 14 Things you MUST try
The disk directory is the list of files stored on your hard disk along with their locations. Sometimes this can get out of sync with the actual files on disk. Cache files are temporary holding places for constantly changing information, such as installed fonts, graphics from web pages, Spotlight indexing, etc. As above, program errors and crashes can corrupt cache files, making them fully or partially unreadable. This, in turn, causes individual programs or the OS itself to misbehave. There are a number of utilities on the market to help with these problems, but a very simple solution is built right into your Mac: Among other things, a Safe Boot runs a full scan on the hard drive sector by sector and fixes problems found in the disk directory.
It also clears cache files of old data, so you get a clean start on your next reboot. To perform a Safe Boot, restart the computer and hold down the Shift key until you reach the desktop. This may take a few minutes, and depending on your OS X version you may see a progress bar onscreen for part of the process. For more advanced disk directory repairs, I highly recommend DiskWarrior.
One common step people take to try and solve disk problems is to repair permissions using Disk Utility. Back in the early days of Mac OS X this was helpful, but it has become much less necessary in current versions. When your Mac starts up, programs you use frequently can be set to automatically launch at startup: Safari, Mail, Dropbox, etc. And some programs may have configured themselves to launch at startup whether you want them or not — Skype, anyone? You may have extraneous items or out-of-date tasks vying for attention.
Some of these items may no longer be needed or current. For example, if you used to run Symantec AntiVirus on your iMac in and have just migrated things along ever since, there may be one or two Symantec programs still set to launch at startup. A long delay at startup could be a sign of a missing shared network drive. The next few steps are a bit more advanced.
