Word mac 2011 group shapes

Save groups of objects I have had that same problem and it drives me nuts. I finally tried putting only what I wanted on the image and then chose "Select All" - and then right mouse clicking on the image and choosing "Save as picture" and it has worked every time for me!

Would resize larger but not smaller than some seemingly arbitrary size. Did the Preview cut and paste thing and now the grouping will go smaller in Keynote and Pages. Does anyone know what this size limit thing is and how to avoid it?
