You can use one set of speakers just for your Mac's alert sounds. OK just thought of something. It apparently is BItperfect which I am using to send the signal. Apparently when Bitperfect is on, it controls the signals through the DAC and when it is off I can control it regularly.

That's a shocker to me but that is the apparent cause. Jan 8, 8: I received an email from Bitperfect and as suspected it is the culprit as apparently it uses what is called "hog" mode, so it takes completely over the sound system in the Mac, so everything dealing with sound output has to go through Bitperfect.
Interesting, as you have to disenable Bitperfect to hear anything else, i. So that is the answer and it never dawned on me, because BItperfect is only a background program so you really never open or close it and it doesn't show up in a window etc. More Less.
