But I did worry a bit about the stress that might be placed upon that tiny little thunderbolt cable connection then a mere 4 or 5 inches away, a heavy HDMI cable connection. I thought it would have been much smarter to have the adapter be about 2-feet long, so there would very likely be way less to NO-stress placed upon the HDMI cable connection to the adaptor Worked perfectly for weeks, then, glitchy video would happen and that would be moments before the connection was lost completely. Problem appeared to be where Thunderbolt cable connected to the MacbookPro.

My HDMI cable always remained plugged into the adapter; that never moved ever. Occasionally, maybe once a week, I would unplug the thunderbolt cable to move the Macbook pro to another location to use it, and it's really hard to mishandle the adapter cable plug-in to the computer: It fits very snug, and the cable itself is fairly stiff, as it looks in the product picture.
The product's failure didn't happen plugging it in one day. It happenend in midst of watching a movie, while reaching for Macbook pro to turn down volume, then setting it back on its table. That then prompted me to unplug the adapter cable and plug it back in I dug into a bunch of threads on Apple discussion forums about video outputs and projectors. But no discussions about glitchy video. I had my IT guy run the Mac thru hardware test and there was nothing wrong with my video card, and he did not believe the Mac's port was somehow shorted or something like that.
So I came back to these reviews and saw that others have experienced this. Which means it is not unusual. That's a drag because Monoprice typically makes good products.

YES the product works. And you may never experience any failure. Just be aware that you might. There have been too many reviewers stating similar problems of it working initially then a month or two later it failing. So I just ordered it. It's actually about a dollar less too: See my instructions below.
Many reviewers ignorantly rate this lower because they blame their hardware or software for being unable to pass audio along with video. Only recently released macs have the hardware capable of passing audio out via display port. These are as of Step 1: Step 2: Select appropriate input on TV. Step 3: The mac should auto-sense the display connection and extend the desktop to it. You should have video at this point, but not audio, outputting. Press Shift-Command-A to open the Applications folder.
Then double-click System Preferences, then click Displays. If you're connecting from a Mac mini, unplug any audio device that is plugged into your computer's Audio-Out port.
