There are sometimes driver issues with Windows and Apple hardware, but as a tech savvy person, I have successfully gotten around those. This could or could not be an issue for you. The newest patch was released yesterday and for some reason PlayOnLinux is never able to update the game. I am now trying to reinstall the game inside the Wrapper, I hope that'll fix the problem: I've fixed it by reinstalling the game and renaming "AoK HD.

Jomenall has covered it, it seems. I'm not sure if this written tutorial still differs - I previously used this, but ran into problems when African Kingdoms was released and then used the video tutorial instead.

I'm also getting the same error message jod I can't figure out what's causing it. I'm able to connect to servers on windows with no issues. I've noticed when using playonmac it keeps defaulting to wine version 2.
