Keyboard and trackpad disabled at login, keeps searching for Bluetooth

Nervous since so many people have viewed this thread the past 24 hours. Annie hi. Holding the caps lock fixed this for us and the computer is working again. Thanks for the tip. Just go to your settings and go whichever that leads to the Bluetooth keyboard setup and disable it. Like never show up at startup or login anymore.

As simple as that. Now I no longer encounter the problem anymore.

Hope this helps. Show 15 more comments. That failing, try holding down the Option key on boot and go to the repair partition an run Disk Utilities. I just had success with login using option key at boot but the Bluetooth set up window came up again! Now what?? This sounds like a virus infection. I would run a good "Pair For" antivirus on these machines. I have a touch bar MacBook Pro. I have a problem that input from the mouse is not accepted on the login screen after a reboot.

I don't yet have a wireless keyboard but it is on order. I am afraid the it too will not work on the login screen. Show 9 more comments. Reece reecee. If your model is the model, EMC on the bottom will be you have selected late , try reconnecting the trackpad cable. I have seen the trackpad cable go bad on these models, and if it is not recognised, neither the trackpad or the keyboard will work. If you reconnect it and it initially works, buy a replacement cable. It will go bad again, so just replace it with a new one. Now working. As soon as I was in I turned Bluetooth off.

When I opened again it was back to searching for Bluetooth. Or is it an A EMC check the bottom? Also to me this has been going on since a day or two. I now figure that, when I connect to the net when setting up, the search for a bluetooth keybord doesn't appear, but not yet sure if there is this correlation. Has anyone tried the solution as suggested by Mayer above?

Calamity Jane calamityjane. Yes, pressing the Caps key stopped the box from popping up Ann Auman. Tried PRAM but could not access the keyboard or the mouse. Also tried holding down the caps key. Tried all the solutions above,. I plugged in an external keyboard not Apple , and that also did not work. So I'm stuck Josephine Vaillaud josephinev. I have the same problem on my MacBook Pro, I tried hitting or holding the caps key or holding command-option-p-r together but nothing worked.

Grigorii gregerqerty. After having the same issue with my macbook bought in I gave it to app store and they changed the WHOLE keyboard system for free! Guess what? After 5 monthis this started happening again!!! I was able to solve this problem by turning the computer over and starting hitting some areas. My problem was that the keyboard icon appeared in the Bluetooth list of my Macbook Air but I kept getting a message that it would not connect. I found in the end that the solution for me was to remove the keyboard and then add it again.

Once it was rediscovered, the code appeared and now everything is fine.

Borrow any wired USB keyboard or mouse from a PC or Mac for the sake of being able to do any keyboard or mouse input to get around the problem. The annoying notification appearing in the bottom centre of the screen. There is not the same switch on this model as the AA battery type so the above procedure is not appropriate. However, your problem is not with establishing a connection with the Mac, but in maintaining it.

This suggests that the keyboard may be experiencing interference from other devices on the same frequency as Bluetooth, namely 2.

It would be good to see if you can reduce sources of interference, or look at how the keyboard and the Mac are situated to see if there is a source of interference or something that might be otherwise degrading the signal. Also, check the batteries you are using, power fluctuations might be affecting the keyboard circuitry and its ability to maintain a connection. Magic mouse issue, which appeared when I updated Abode Flash not sure if its coincidence or not. The mouse now only tracks vertically, in line, and not allow any other movement. I reset the bluetooth as you described and now the mouse can very slowly move around a little bit at a time.

But still not any where need the speed one would fine acceptable. I ave a new Apple brand bluetooth keyboard. Silly me…. Numerous previous attempts to pair had failed. The Mac said the keyboard was there, but pairing failed. I then slid the switch to ON and held it there. Yes, probably silly. I clicked on Pair and it worked. Thanks for this Dave.

I have an older model magic keyboard and a MacBook Pro. I carried out these steps to get the keyboard connected. Whether it stays connected remains to be seen! Within seconds, I was able to use the keyboard. Thank you! Just wanted to say thank you!

I can also press enter to confirm but it always fails since the only code I can enter is I've also tried pairing from the bluetooth preference and changing the passcode option. However this won't work either. Any ideas? The keyboard was paired with another MacBook Pro I don't have access to it anymore.

Is there any method to 'reset' the keyboard to factory settings? If only one number key is working, it sounds like a hardware issue. My brother had a wireless keyboard that flaked out and only certain keys functioned although in his case it was from a liquid spill. Do you have any other Bluetooth-capable device to test with? Any iOS device can pair with the keyboard to test it. After reading the question and answer here I was ready to throw the keyboard in the trash, but then thought that if two people have such an odd failure maybe its just a bug that one can work around.

So, after being unable to type anything but 0 and enter and watching the connection attempt fail, I clicked a button on the failure screen that allowed me to then choose an alternate passkey.

It was pre-populated with I played around with connecting again but the enter key would not highlight until I typed eight zeros instead of four. I tried a few times and then noticed for whatever reason the custom setting was back to eight random digits. I decided to start over, clearing out the list of bluetooth devices. On my next attempt, I typed and enter for the passkey and waited for the failure. I then selected the custom passkey setting which was now populated as I reattempted and was asked to type I did so, and even though the screen did not show I could hit enter - presumably because it wanted four more digits - I hit enter anyway.
