This is an "el cheapo" print server from an off brand company and I knew that going in. But maybe I can save someone else a few bucks. First, it is cheaply made. It comes with the lowest possible grade of ethernet cable and the first power supply was DOA.

Seller replaced the power supply and that failed after just a few days. Failure mode includes overheating and melting where the CD cable comes out of the case, so it could be actually dangerous. So is there anything good about it?

After fiddling I believe I was close to getting it to work with my USB printer but am going to have to wait to find a reliable power supply to really know. There are a hundred ways for a device like this to "not work" due to misconfiguration and it was clear to me that the seller was ready to kick that can down the road if I did not accept a new power supply in lieu of just returning the unit which was my preference.

I should have pushed.

Best recommendation is just to stay away from this junk and possibly this seller. Under Windows 7, you are mostly out of luck. It installs under Windows 7, and you can check a few items in the print server and make changes, but that's all. Very few printers are supported, under any operating system. Of all the printers out there, new and older, they support only about of them, and I mean printer models, not companies.

According to the instructions, this print server will only work if you install their software on each PC. I tried it with 2 different computers and 2 different printers and it would not work. Even though the wizard could see the printer, the print job would not go to the printer. In reading the fine print I see now that they give you a specific list of compatible printers.

My printers weren't on this list which isn't all that long. I am a network administrator and have set up numerous print servers with no problem. In offices, every worker has given a PC but to give individual printer to all of them is little expensive therefore for that purpose it is the best device. If only one printer gets in contact with all the computers of workers than each and every one can give print through it.
