I found it including the note about a firmware update an a European site that I came to indirectly. As John requested, please do post back with the result. It's a big help to future searchers. The firmware update from the link worked perfectly and I now have a fully functioning projector and computer combination.

Philips Pico Pix PPX - Apple Community

Philips uses Sagemcom for their supplier of projectors. Staunton, VA Local time: Their site indicates there's been a firmware update. There are various driver update sites that offer an upgrade - providing one pays money. Sorry, I misread the manual, it's under the Maintenance section.
