I used. You may also need to check that the daemon is not still running using Activity Monitor or at the command line using ps -A. I found that mysqld was still running even after deleting the files.

When setting up the build you can specify a directory under which to install MySQL with the --prefix parameter. You should make sure the directory does not exist and attempt to install from source. How did you install 5. I am trying to rollback from 8. No such file or directory. For me the line: I reinstalled mysql 5. The super weird thing, however, is it took me several attempts at deleting that file to get things to finally work. I have no idea what I did differently the final time to get it to work, but hopefully this message points someone in the right direction.
