I downloaded it to my ancient macbook, but found when I inserted movies from my phone, they were all horizontal instead of vertical and could find no way to rotate. Got a new internet cable to road, so would like to try again. My question is, since I got the old corrupt movie to come up, it means not everything was trashed, right?
I dragged the icon to trash and restarted my computer, but when I downloaded the new one from here, there were two parts to it. So what about the second part that went in the system library? How do I remove that? Maybe that is where the corrupt file came from? When you drag the second file into the library it should say file already exists and asks if you want to over write it, click yes. Do that or go to where the file is and delete by dragging to the trash or hold the command key and press delete. First start a new file and save it right away then try to open your last file.
Always keep one blank file in case the project you are working on crashes. I also save often. To start over on your project and retrieve your files without opening iMovie read through this thread, and I explain on how to do this. I downloaded the updated version on the original post, changed just one occurrence of CFBundleVersion, and it opened instantly. It took me several minutes and a restart to get permission to open the plist file, but after that everything was fine.
So thank you again very much. Upon reopening though, it all worked well and has done so a few times since. So I am very thankful for that! Seems I cannot access my iPhoto library from the Photos section of the Media tab, however, the Audio section does connect with my iTunes. A workaround I found that is easy enough, but not as convenient, is to just drag the photos you want to put into HD6 onto the desktop, then drag them into HD6.
It seems like the method works, but did anyone try extracting audio from a video clip and splitting the audio? It just crashes from OSX He literally extracts audio from almost every project he does and it works fine. Get a sufficiently large external hard drive to exceed what you have already filled on your internal drive and use Carbon Copy Cloner to make a bootable copy of your entire hard drive. Then, when you want to work in iMovie, boot up with the external drive. The latest version of iMovie is so so so bad… Premier is a pain in the arse.

On mine, those two lines showed up like three or four times—I just changed them all, and it worked! I have installed iMovie6HD on my Apple 3. Any idea how to fix this problem? Rolando, thank you for the detailed instructions. Installed and working on Sierra. However, like Zoran, I would love me to get my old Slick 5 effects working as well. My hope is you can take the contents of the DMG and put it in a certain directory but this is all just an idea that may not work.

Well, this is very strange. The only thing not working for me is the iLife Sound Effects, but I found them in the library and am still able to drag them into HD6, when needed. She never had the Gee Three plug ins. A long time ago I installed them there. I copied the installed stuff and dropt it on the same place on my iMac with OSX. Thanks for this. I too have lamented the loss of this incredible app for years.

The latest Garageband is horribly unintuitive. I had to find the old one and download it. I tried this fix and it did work as far as opening up iMovie HD 6, importing a movie and running some effects.
Like many here, I used iMovie 6 for years, and then got a new Mac and was greatly disappointed with what they did to destroy iMovie. You are a genius and have brought me all sorts of relief. I thought I had lost all the video footage of my boys when they were babies. Because my old version 6. The problem is, nothing works. Copy and paste all the files you want to another location of your liking. OMG I cannot believe it!

All good. I did not fully create or save anything so I cannot attest to that. I am using I started using iMovie when it first came out. I was an Apple rep at the time and they gave us DVcams and iMovie to practice with. It was so much fun! Even just the white on the black interface; everything. I longed for the old days! I was telling my daughter how great it was, before she was even born!

I too tried to put the Slick plugins into the iMovie folder under library but they did not show up in my iMovie HD6. I am so happy to be able to run this on the new iMac now but still hoping for a solution to the Slick Plugins. What I did was take all the Slick effects out of their folders. Rolando Hello! With the help of your clues, my old iMovie is now running fine on High Sierra: It works fine, just as before. The only thing is that it must be run together with Terminal. Just put Terminal to the dock as long as you are using the iMovie. Hello, Thank you first of all. I have followed all of your advise, but when I capture new HD content from a video camera the content is corrupt, strange audio, and pauses between ever 30 frames. No joy. Can anyone please assist?
