In fact, Word automatically switches to web layout view if you try it. The background does not print because it is intended for a web page. What gets printed is the "inserted" picture. However, as a possible workaround, try saving your document, with the background nicely formated and still in web layout view, as a webpage.
Save as It will open with your default browser.

Have you received an answer to this delema yet? If so, could you please share it with me? I suspect the original poster was as frustrated as I was Open Powerpoint. Create a background exact same way and choices as in Word. Save it. But, save it as a. When it asks you, tell it to only extract the one slide. Don't worry about saving the actual presentation.

I'm looking at this issue, and wondering if by chance you're saving the original document "as" the wrong format type, and then trying to pull it up in print preview, and pp is looking for it as a different type? Does that make sense at all? Sorry if that sounds confusing, but it made more sense in my head! Sometimes if I have an issue, re: Hope some of this helps!
