Google earth download for mac os x 10.6

The site said it would only work with OS X But it won't drag into the hard drive as the instructions said it should. Instead it resides on the desktop and in Applications. When you click on it, you get a drop down that says this" is an application that you downloaded from the Internet. Do you want to open it?

This site had links to several versions of Google Earth, so we have it now on an older Mac as well. Your information is appreciated. Force quit Google Earth if it is open.
