It must be some similar setting that the additional PC is bridging though. As far as I know if you have the Folder permissions set correctly you should be able to access the file. How are you trying to connect to the server's shared.
Are you connecting to the server using a Username and password or just trying to find the folder in Finder? Edit 2: You may need to upgrade your OSX Try this tutorial on 4sysops. Also a thread Technet , its directed towards R2 but may be helpful.
