Why wont my iphone charge when i plug it in to my mac

My phone was not charging last week, and it was panic time. Funny thing about my iPhone 4 is it only charges when turned off dnt know why. Quit the update crap unless it works and get rid of the damn pop ups telling me to update!!!! Any suggestions? Cleaned out the charging port.

No luck. Any other advice? I had the same problem. After changing the charger cable lighting cable I found that my iphone 5S started charging. It worked! I would never have believed so much lint could fit in there with the charger connected! Thank you all for the help! I cleaned out my port and it works!!! I cleaned out my port after the fact that powered of my phone. Sometimes you just need to do both no worries. I just had charging problem This morning, after cleaning the port my iPhone 6plus is charging perfectly Thanks for the hint: Replaced battery that would drain very fast with new on from ifixit.

New battery powered up phone and worked fine but would not charge. Checked all the obvious but put old battery back in and all is fine, just drains fast thus the new battery. Ifixit sent a replacement but same issue, works, wont charge. Living with old battery for now. The reboot worked! I was getting a bit pissed off with the constant charger connection issue but the little bugger is now sat charging on my desk and the stress has lifted. Very grateful for the advice and so glad I found this site. Best wishes: It goes to a processor basically that decides whether to charge the battery or not, the same one that prevents overcharging.

This can malfunction sometimes and a re-boot or two should help. Other than that, yeah lint. For me it was both. First a massive piece of pocket cheese. Was so happy to see it on the end of the toothpick…. Plugged it in with a big smile and sigh of relief, and…. Continued to read on about the reset and that was the finishing touch. Thanks again Rich. I have an IP6. Saturday I updated the OS to 9.

I tried connecting it again but no success. I did all of those things mentioned. There was no lint but i brushed it with a small stick and also the usb cable. How come? Is it the OS? IC damaged?

This is my problem too, and exactly what happened to my IP6 I did every step they advised but still no success. Pleas help I am in onshore there is no way out to go for my IP6 to repair, until my Field break. I have tried everything including cleaning it but my iphone 6 S wont charge. When I take it to phone shops they charge it but dont tell me what is the problem, rather say they dont see anything. A soft reboot and it charges perfectly I spent hours trying to clean the port until I figured it out.

Sometimes it fixes itself with no intervention. I recently updated my Iphone 6 OS, shortly my battery needs to be serviced and the battery charge doesnt last 60minutes it dead. I really had to work at it, the lint was tightly packed. I think a vacuum might speed things up once you have it loose. Be patient after you have shut it down. Mine took a while to start charging. I dropped my iphone off a stair stepper at the gym and naturally assumed I had damaged the hardware of the phone itself, the phone would only charge when the cord was in a certain way.

Hey thanks! But I did the hard reboot and all was well again. Just Clean the port. I was thinking to change my Iphone 5 having charging difficulties. I cleaned the port; it perfectly work. I looked at the comments and saw some ppl talking about rebooting your iPhone and I have an iPhone 5s and I did as the comments said and rebooted it and it worked thx guys. Cable was frayed so i bought a new genuine one, still had problems this morning after re booting twice.

I have and IPhone 5s. It was purchased about a month ago. It currently stopped working I have tried literally everything to try to get this phone on. I cleaned out with a toothpick and tried different chargers, different outlets, etc. I also tried rebooting it. It is still not working, I have a fight to California tomorrow and am currently wishing I booked a flight a secluded island.

My phone seemed a little wonky about charging, and then totally stopped charging at all, I have several cables, none worked, cleaned the port and no luck. Powering off and waiting a few minutes and powering back on has fixed the problem…at least for now. Earlier if i had to charge the phone i had to switch it off but the day before it was dead the phone automatically used to wake up and interrupt the charging. This sounds like a classic case of your iPhone not charging. Fortunately there is an entire article dedicated to this topic of why the iPhone may not be charging and how to fix it, the guide is here: This has happened to me before, I plugged it in over night and let it charge and it worked.

But, I have had it happen on another iPhone too, where the iPhone would not charge and it was because it suffered water damage. So you must consider these options. Reboot worked for me. While I was working on my Iphone 4S, I suddenly noticed images cracking up and after a while my iPhone went dead. To start with I thought my battery had died.

The phone is fairly old. Do you feel Apple Store would help fix my issue. I done all these tips included reboot.

My iPhone Won't Charge! The Real Fix From A Former Apple Tech.

Nothing appear. Need change the charging port?? The only thing that I can get to charge my phone is my ps4. All the outlets work with anything else I plug into the wall, except my phone charger.

I was desperate on fixing my iPhone 6 plus not charging and thinking that I need to spend and see a technician to fix it. But when I read this tips rebooting and tried to fix it by myself. Thanks for these useful tips! I cleaned my charger Port and everything. I would not recommend this but I used a safety pin to pick out such a great amount of lint is surprised me.

Working fine now. Went to repair shop tried his charger and iPhone 6 plus boots up. I go and get a new Apple brand cable and dock from Walmart. Tried all of the above and finally tried the re-boot, success! Thanks you save me from and expensive purchase or a long journey and wait at the Genius Bar. Thank you so much for the reboot tip for the iPhone to get phone to recharge mode after cleaning port and checking power.

My iphone has the lighting bolt beside the battery logo. Battery ran completely flat on my iPhone 5. When home button pressed only showed large battery symbol with thin red line at the bottom. When cable removed the connect cable symbol was displayed briefly. Tried to reboot holding power and home button. After holding Power and Home button about 12 times eventually the apple symbol appeared and phone resumed charging normally.

Now its charging so it should turn on pretty soon thanks for the article and all the information. Connected it to MacBook Pro and iPhoto no longer recognizes the device. The charger is an Apple charger. Did the reboot several times and no go.

If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won't charge

On to Galaxy world. Most post were saying reboot and find a tooth pick to clean the charging point: Whoop Whoop. This was super helpful. I thought that this thing was done for and that I was gonna have to go to the Apple store and get some expensive ass fix for this phone. I just took a paper clip and started digging really lightly , and Viola!!! Thanks for this posting. Wife plugged in her 4C with same charger and cord that she has been using. Cord immediately got hit and started to melt. Phone was completely dead. Tried another charging cord actually 4 others and nothing. Cleaned the port.

Still nothing. Any ideas? Same thing happened to my granddaughters 6 and we replaced it. After 2 days the new 6 did the same thing. Warranty covered it. Never had problems like this with Samsung and LG androids. Lithium batteries have protection against over-discharging, they do this by breaking the circuit if the voltage drops too low to prevent further drain. Unfortunately, once this has triggered, you can no longer put charge back into the battery because the battery is disconnected internally, so no matter how long you leave the phone on charge, it remains disconnected and flat.

You only need to get the voltage in the battery to raise a percent or two to reconnect the protection circuit so that it will charge again and you can do that by warming up the battery. Heat it for a good mins so that the hear soaks right through the battery and it feels hot to the touch, this will raise the internal voltage enough to reconnect the protection circuit. Immediately reconnect the battery into the phone and put it on charge.

Hope it helps you. Tried all of the quick fixes, and none worked, so finally I had to restore the phone. Big hassle, and I spent the better part of a morning getting all of the apps situated. Then two days later, the same thing happened.

2. More serious tools

Phone says it was dead and could not get it to charge. Started desperately searching for alternatives to restoring the phone, again, and found the blow dryer suggestion. After a couple of minutes, the apple logo appeared, and the phone rebooted. Million thanks Gerry for this advice! Exactly this happened after I had replaced the battery and the new battery had undervoltage. Heated the phone a bit with a hairdryer and now it started charging. Thank the Gods! But rebooting it helped it and I am so thankful!

Thank you so much for writing this article. I though my phone was broken but rebooting it completely helped. Thanks again. Waooo, how simple — just cleaned out the lint. Thank You it worked!!! Tried 3 different charging cables and different wall units before I came to this website. Great info!!! I thought my Iphone 5 was giving up on me: My husband then held the home and power button down 12 times, it finally went on.

Thanks for all the info!!! But, my battery percentage didnt raise at all. I was just about to lose my mind when my iPhone 6 just stopped charging. Omg you just saved my life, well 6 hours of it getting to an Apple Store. Reboot successfully restored ability to charge. Hi, I am starting intermediate and my parents bought me a green iPhone 5c.

It has got a pink case. My mom said it has had these problems before. So today She got it fixed. Please help!!!!!! My iPod refuses to charge. I have rebooted it several times and have cleaned out the port. No lint. Tried different cords, wall outlets, etc. Please help. I really need help. Worked my way down your list of solutions got to reboot and that solved it phone was charged just not showing it. Phew what a relief! I have iphone 6 was having problems pretty much with charging from word Go until finally no charge at all.

Changed it and Bingo! Thank you so oo oo oo much!!!!! All I had to do was blow really hard into the charging port to get the degree out!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much! I thought I had Brocken it! Thank you!!!!!! Thanks mate. Debris is real l pulled out a lot. My phone is charging, but when I use it while its charging it shows it is charging but the percent number is going down and then it dies.

Had the problem similar to many other comments about to get new cable even went to the Apple Store to set up a session at the Genius Bar but found this forum by accident and followed those advices had cleaned the charger and the hole on the device as well as reboot whew I got it to work again. Turns out my problem was the charging cable, luckily i could borrow sons, but, the charging port WAS yucky, so its had a clean out, thanks for the info: Followed the advice in this forum cynically: Finally got a drawing pin, a can of compressed air used for cleaning dust out of computers and cleaned out the port.

It was a piece of pocket dust congealed at the back of the port, I must of being compressing it every time I was plugging the cable in. Thanx a Lott for this useful tips. I was troubling too much.. Thank you SO much for that tip! I had already tried pretty much everything else listed here before I found your article, but would never have thought of a hard reset.

This really helped me. They seem to be working fine. Any body has any idea why its not charging?

Helpful answers

The real problem was my charging block. I had this problem after having a screen replaced and starting to use a case. It seemed to come and go at different times, and I noticed that the pattern favored times I had recently used it for short periods when fully charged or used it for an extended period on tasks that were not processor-intensive. Remembering a problem I had with a MacBook Pro that had a battery that would expand and make the trackpad fail air travel was another issue there , I tested a theory, and it work: Consider wrapping in a layer of paper towels to minimize the risk of condensation, however.

It seems that the cooler battery shrinks back and does not think the cable is non-certified for being too large. Then read this article. Reboot cured my problem. Not the first time a reboot has resolved a glitch. When in doubt, reboot it out. I freaked out then tried to put it in another outlet problem solved. Omg all i did was clean the charging port with a tissue and then plug it in and mi ipad mini instantly turned on. I, too, had the same problem with the iPhone not charging. Saw the responses out here in Genius land and sure enough, it worked. So i decided the lint thing was the last option i had so i tried that and still didnt work yikes someone help.

Cleaning with a needle worked. Thanks for this helpful website. Phone was not charging — no battery icon. I changed the cable, switched to another wall outlet but I never switched my Apple wall plug. It always worked before! I just plugged it into my computer at work after reading this blog. I am getting the battery icon. I hope it fully charges! Hi my Iphone 8plus fell 2 days ago and now its not charging normally, but when i turn it off and charge, it starts charging. For me, none of the above solutions worked at all and I thought I had to buy a new phone or battery.

Heat up the battery for a few minutes.

If you have a hair dryer, try blowing hot air on the phone for 2 minutes then plug it into the charger. The Apple logo should show up now. If you do not have a hair dryer, try a heating pad. Turn the heating pad on high and lay the phone on it for 5 minutes then remove the heat and plug in the charger.

The Apple logo should show up at this point. I found the solution on another forum. The reason this works-if anyone cares-is because the Lithium battery in the iPhone can get too cold and stop conducting signals. My iphone6s stop charging suddenly and the battery went flat. Initially checked the charging connection and it seem clear to the naked eye after cleaning with a toothpick. Four days later having read the iPhone helpline using my iPad I cleaned the port again and more cotton fluff came out not visible to the eye.

Many thanks for this helpline. I already try all the options. With the same charger and cable, my iphone 5 charge both on the wall and computer. Is that mean that my iphone 6 charging port alredy damage? I had to clean the connectors on bottom side… it had gump covering 2 of the slots. Blew air, rebooted… it was hump on side of charging port. After i used a q-tip as well as a toothpick and got it out and it still wont work, and i have also tried many outlets, cords and ports nothing is working!?!? This helped me so much. My iphone5s was charging with only particular charger and that too in certain positions.

I am shocked seeing the dust collected on the charging port. After cleaning the charging port using pin those dust are not visible generally. My phone is charging perfectly fine. Thanks much for the help. Same problem I am facing also. It is Iphone X, and its not taking charge! Sometimes it takes charge, but most of the time I find it difficult to charge! Cant believe it really worked. Nearly bought a new iphone. Once changing and then unplugged, reboot is a must. Consistently have to force reboot phone to get it to charge. Alongside unplugging and plugging in reverse the USB and Lightning end.

No reason a phone should deny correct voltage coming in. This was very helpful! You cant restart iphone thats completely drained and wont power on!!! Plug your iphone in and charge it. It is an iPhone, an iPhone has a rechargeable battery in it, that charges by plugging in to a wall outlet. The iPhone will not turn on if it is not charged or if the battery is dead. If the iPhone still is dead, maybe battery is completely dead or maybe you ruined the iPhone.

It worked a treat and the phone is now charging again. Yippee and thanks. Thanks so much for all the information on troubleshooting my IPhone, I was about to lose my mind. And all it took was a toothpick. It charges fine when plugged into the wall, but not when plugged int the auto USB port.
