The 4 pin end is a mini FW plug designed to fit the camcorder. But this adapter probably uses the standard plugs - 9 pin to 6 pin. The 6 pin end won't fit the port on your camcorder to the best of my knowledge.
It also comes with a FW to adapter - but the FW end is the 6 pin. See this site it's an Australian one - part way down the page you will see a cable for FW to - 9 pin to 4 pin.

By connecting your camcorder via the WD Studio's FW port using an appropriate cable or adapter , you can import to iMovie Events on your local hard drive the Mac's drive. You are not restricted to importing to the external drive. Having said this, I'm not sure if you can import to a drive that may be dedicated as a Time Machine backup drive.
