It turns out there's the regular uninstall, and then there's a super uninstall, and then there's a super duper uninstall, etc -- something like seven different uninstallation procedures, which is just insane. HP's drivers and cruddy software convinced me to never by another one. It's a shame -- the company made some laser printers 15 years ago that are still working perfectly.
