Imac g4 hack mac mini

I sadly sold my one a while back, but I still have a non-complete set model. So it's not for the g4 capabilities, but rather the form factor. And yes, modding the internals like that is I have a colleague who had one on her work desk for years. I'll have to see what became of it. And, yes, I always loved the look of the thing. Now I have to watch the video to see how they pulled it off.

Yeah, the iLamp is in the pantheon of modern classic Apple hardware—along with the G4 Cube, the iPhone 4S, the TiBook, the 12" PowerBook, and any old click-wheel iPod that's in good shape—and the 20" is the rarest and most usable by modern standards. The nostalgia industry is becoming larger each day.

Still loving it. Interesting I didn't realize people were converting these into Hackintoshes. I have a G5 with a "popped" power supply I was planning to use for my Hackintosh. It would have looked nice, but honestly PC mid case I have has much more flexible expansion. The TiBook is also the ultimate OS9 laptop. There's still no good classic Mac OS emulator.

The other thing is that retro hardware in general is appreciating in value. The price of that iMac in the OP is not so unreasonable considering it's in good shape with a complete set of period appropriate accessories.

If you want to see actually crazy prices, check out this Vogons thread. I just got a MHz TiBook in really great shape the other day for free. The original battery powers it for about an hour too! No paint flacking off anywhere. I watched a DVD on it the other night. Gonna break out some of my old games and steep myself in nostalgia. I hope it lasts a long time. It looks like it's been babied by its previous owner.

If we're playing Macs-in-the-closet bingo, count me in.

Not the case for Macs, especially in original working condition. Or they can just upgrade the internals with whatever is available at the time possibly a new ARM powered Mac Mini and have a fabulous new computer in the shape of a classic. There will still be a bunch of unmolested iLamps for museums, just like there are any number of old Macs despite the existence of Macquariums. Did you see how much work was involved in turning this into basically nothing more than a NUC?

Now imagine doing that every 5 years to keep it up to date. I'm not worried about not enough iLamps to go around for all the museums out there. You're right, there are enough to go around. This Hackintosh though? Like I said, just whatever you would get selling it as scrap metal. You wouldn't have to redo a lot of the work to update the NUC.

I won't lie -- I find the idea of a 20" Hackinlamp pretty appealing. Inverter cables tucked away and Monitor data cables secured.

A little unsightly for now. I plan to get some better more flexable USB extensions and mount them properly to the rear ports.

Used the original Mini's power button, mounted in the "headphone" cutout. Proof photo. Core Due G4. Although the original screen is of a lower resolution then what we are used to today, it still looks wonderful. Apple really knows knew? A funny side note. I realized that the mini's dome makes a Faraday cage, blocking all signals. Using a USB wifi dongle for now with unofficial modified drivers As a bouns, it's faster then the original airport card. This ended up being very annoying, as the wifi dongle had a glitchy helper program. I wrote a few applescripts that help to fix it's behavior.

There was also an issue with the computer sleeping properly, which I was able to fix with a small tray utility the name escapes me at the moment What's Next: Mar 16 - Dec 21 - Not easy.
