Verified Purchase. This is the first label maker that I ever purchased and I am so glad that I did. Things look so much better and easy to organize with this gadget. This model had a USB interface and that was the reason that I bought it.

It was not difficult at all. Pop the CD in the PC and let it do its thing. It does take some time to do what it wants to do. Connect the label-maker ONLY when instructed to do so.

It auto-detects the size of the tape and can accomodate every size upto 24 mm 1 inch. The labels can be designed, stored, and printed from the pc, giving all the labels same consistent look. I wasted at least a foot of tape after my first lot of tapes was done. However, it is possible to avoid this wastage if you chain them- print them all as a large label and manually cut them.

Chaining is not that difficult an option if you are doing this on PC see hint below. I wish Brother had labeled it on the top as it does about plugging the printer after software installation. If you do labels individually, there is no way to avoid it. This is a manageable annoyance, if planned. These tapes are expensive. Wish they sold them in combo packs with all sizes. Wish it could take 1. It is just a wish as only the expensive ones have that option. Overall, a great label maker once you iron out the minor kinks. To print multiple labels without wasting the tape, choose "chain printing" and disable the "auto-cut" option in the PC setup.

When printing the last label, enable auto-cut and disable chain print. This will save you a lot of tape. But beware, labeling can be addicting! Especially after experiencing how a little organization can make so many things so much simpler.

My initial goal was to bring some order to the explosion of wires behind my stereo and entertainment center. Then I realized my collection of power tool cases were remarkably similar and weirdly, manufacturers don't have any labeling other than the brand name to help you out. Then I realized that since I make things like my own ironing spray starch, I kept needing to look up the proportions of corn starch to water every ironing day, wasting time.

A simple label listing that on the spray bottles eliminated that annoying problem. Not to mention the more obvious uses like organizing file folders for personal paperwork records. I've been very happy with other Brother products in the past and after comparing many reviews decided to give this PT model a try.

Compelling reasons for the choice was first it's versatility.

It can be used in conjunction with your computer via USB port, or used independently while plugged in or even unplugged on battery power. A whole ecosystem of label cartridges were available in various widths and colors. Perhaps most of all was the ease of use. Label cartridges easily snap into place and the machine automatically recognizes the width and capacity, and adjusts the variables like how many lines it allows you to print that will fit on that label. The door you lift to open the cartridge compartment has a window that allows you to see what size label cartridge you have in there to avoid time wasting investigation.

Without opening a manuel as most men are known to ignore, it was simple to setup and change a variety of available variables, like font style and boldness. There's also a preview button to make sure what you'll wind up with before you commit to the print button. A readout in the upper right hand corner of the readout window also informs you of the length of the label, lest you get carried away and create something that will be an inch bigger than the surface you planned to stick it on. The price of this unit wasn't much more than many small much less versatile models, which make it seem like a comparative bargain.

The printer has a relatively small footprint so after a quick use, it readily stores in a drawer out of the way.
