A player that primarily set up to play files from my local network PCs and NAS , rather than primarily a storefront for streaming content from the web. A nicer, faster GUI would be great. Small footprint. I have narrowed my search down to these devices: I also have a Roku Ultra, brand new and in the box, sitting here next to me gift. I do not plan on buying anything through the box anytime soon and hate the idea.

It would be good to know if there is a similar process using any of these other devices. Also, the Dune device is shown on their website as being released late , early but I do not see these listed for sale anywhere yet, not in the US anyway. ManicZen is offline. Remove Advertisements. Charles R. For local playback info your best bet Kelson likes this. Charles R is offline. I went with it largely because it supports lossless audio bitstreaming of my local media, which a lot of the other "mainstream" options that you didn't list as considering don't.

With the Shield set to output the correct resolution and color space, I don't share the opinion some on here have about it's picture quality. If you don't care AT ALL about anything other than local media streaming, then I think you may be better served with an alternative solution. Originally Posted by Charles R. I would recommend reading a bit why I provided the link versus getting my opinion which is often based on what works for me and is often clueless for what would work best for you Great info. Dune has a good track record, but it should be similar performance to the Zappiti since they use the same chip.

I have a Shield and it is a very good, well rounded device, but has some issues that should hopefully be resolved in the next firmware colorspace switching. Also, if you plan to keep the Roku, there is a way to register without a credit card. I did a long time ago, and I think this is still the way. Any reasons why you prefer PLEX? One of the posts above states that XML files can be edited easily with any text editor. What exactly is the step by step process to edit the XML file? I am on a PC with notepad sounds like I should be able to use this as the text editor?

Once I open the file using notepad or another text editor, what is the next step to actually be able to edit the text right now I can see it, but it is not editable? Even if the file is set to ready only via permissions in your OS, you should be able to edit it and save it as another name.
