If I try to open a raw file front the explorer by right clicking and choose for open with, I get the same fault message. The message I get when trying to open a raw file is: Could not complete your request because of a program error. I tried starting with no plugins, I reset the preferences and I uninstalled and reinstalled Photoshop.

Have you tried opening from Bridge? Camera Raw? And that format is actually there and lights up your NEF files? I'm grasping at straws, because you've done practically everything we routinely do to fix things like this, including reinstalling Camera Raw itself. On my Macs, I've never had a problem with Camera Raw not running from PS or Bridge, apart from some time ago when it used to demand we run PS before Bridge to make the connection every time we updated to have a "valid app.

With no log files, Adobe's really going to have a hard time pinning this down. Opening from Bridge doesn't work either. I tried to use the Camera Raw filter in Photoshop and I get the message: Could not complete the Camera Raw Filter command because of a program error On a few tries it worked but most of the times it failed and got the above message. I tried to find an older version of camera raw but on the adobe website everything points to the camera raw installer which has only the latest camera raw.
