Input output error mac internal hard drive

I just want to replace the hdd with the ssd and I want it to be like it is now with all the same document and programs etc. Do you think the best thing to do is to load the os onto the ssd and then recover my setting etc from my time machine backup?

Also how can I make sure the ssd is ok? Last edited by aerodynamic18; at Open Disk Utility, select your new hard drive from the left column in Disk Utility. That should straighten out any issues. This method will create an OS X recovery partition.

If you use Time Machine to do the total restore - OS X and all - you don't get the recover partition. Read this to get it explained better than my sorry attempt: Second what good advice Lisa has given you.

Much preferable to do a clean instal of OS X. Also, consider replacing the SATA cable when you rplace the hard drive. They do get stiff and brittle with heat and age. Using OS X. Well i followed the advise and now up and running Also installed 16GB Ram while i was at it.

All working much faster Only issue i have is with word saying the installer isn't right so i need to find the disk to reinstall it. Once i have that done it will be great again. This will keep me going until the mac pro comes out at some stage. I am not surprised with the word issues.

I have had to input my product key a couple of times when I have done a restore or reinstall. No idea why sometimes it acts up and other times it is fine. Glad everything else went great. Its the reason i didn't by a PC!.

How to force a Hard Drive to unmount for formatting in Mac OS X Disk Utility

Crucial claim this is definitely compatable. There was no 'destination' to install to, so I went to Disk Utility. The new hard drive shows up, but there is no option to "Repair Disk" under First Aid it's greyed out and when I tried to erase and re-format the hard drive - I selected Mac OS Extended Journaled - it comes up with an error message: I've Googled the heck out of this, and although others have been asking similar questions, I still can't make sense of it all.

Sep 8, 3: With no specific knowledge about that particular SSD or what diagnostic steps you have already taken, it's hard to say, but it sounds like a that model SSD may not really be compatible with your model MBP, b the specific SSD you received is defective, or c the SSD was installed incorrectly and something was damaged. Sorry if you did this already but have you used the Partition Tab to Partition that SSD as One Partition, and yes it will also format it on that section. Here's the story Shootist - I was a bit nervous about doing a partition as I don't know anything about it a bit more informed now after some research lol! So, after having no luck with formatting, John then took my MBP to their workroom, where he tried two different SATA cables, to see if the cable was the problem. Still no luck. Eventually he managed to format the disk, I think by doing it externally with some of their kit. It ran a check, to make sure all was well with the software disk, and then a message appeared which said paraphrasing a bit here that the "software could not be installed due to an unknown error", and advised me to "contact the software manufacturer".

John jumped in at this stage, and looked under one of the menues for a log - he translated the technical jargon that appeared, but even I understood the bit that said "unable to unmount disk" John suggested it could still be a faulty SATA cable, and reccomended getting it replaced fairly cheap to get it done at Apple store, although he couldn't do it then and there. I am slightly skeptical about a cable problem, as he did try two separate ones, and this didn't solve the original problem of getting it to format.

However, I think I will get it replaced for good measure, and then hopefully I can write that off as a possible cause of the problems. John also suggested it may be a compatibility issue. Next stop is to contact Crucial who I got the hard drive from first thing on Monday and see if they have any words of wisdom re:
